Drink Tube Design Available to Protective Mask Manufacturers

The Technical Support Working Group has designed and successfully tested a hands-free hydration system for use with Powered Air-Purifying Respirators (PAPRs) and both open- and closed-circuit (rebreather) Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). The system was tested against the modified NIOSH CBRN standard for open-circuit SCBA. This system provides the U.S. Government and other emergency responders using PAPR and SCBA with the ability to hydrate while wearing protective gear in a chemical/biological warfare contaminated environment. The drink system is universal in that it will adapt to all systems including those used by the civilian responders so that the modified systems can be submitted to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) for certification.
